1 WannaCry Attack

May 2017, the WannaCry ransomware spread affecting more than 200.  000 computers in more than 150 countries.  Which, they demanded a ransom of an amount of 8 billion dollars. 

WannaCry was a malware created by cybercriminals to block access to computers and attack valuable files with the Microsoft Windows operating system. 

One of the best-known companies was the telephone company, Telefónica.

2 Attack on Equifax

During 2017, Equifax, one of the biggest companies in the  United States, was victim of a cyberattack that exposed the personal data of 143 million users.  

Its magnitude was such that Equifax had to pay more than 18.5 million dollars for user demand, since it is a company that collects credit bureau information that had privileged and confidential information.

3 NotPetya Attack

The NotPetya attack was a variant of WanaCry ransomware, released in June 2017. The ransomware spread via a vulnerability in Microsoft Office products, using an “EternalBlue” exploit. 

The attack had an estimated cost of 1.2 billion dollars and affected systems without users being aware of it, making it impossible to use equipment and devices.  

This virus was the new version of the Petya virus that infected computers in 2016.

4 Target attack

In 2013, the US retailer Target was the victim of a cyberattack that exposed the data of 40 million credit cards, including CVVs and PIN codes and 70 million personal records. 

The attack was initiated by a Russian hacker and cost an estimated $252 million.  This Trojan, was named as BlackOps, 

5 Attack on Sony Pictures

During 2014, Sony Pictures, one of the producers with the greatest international impact, was the victim of a crime that revealed the data of more than 100,000 employees and subscribers of Sony Pictures.  

The attack had a ransom of 100 million dollars and the group was known by the name “GOP”.  

6 Attack on Yahoo

In 2013, Yahoo recorded one of the largest cyberattacks in history, which released the data of 500 million profiles of a user. 

The telecommunications company had to face a cost of 83 million dollars In which data with names of emails, real data and private conversations were exposed. 

7 Attack on Adobe Systems

In 2013, the US multinational Adobe Systems suffered a cyberattack that compromised the confidential information of 153 million users, in which were data with credit and debit card numbers.  

For this cyber attack, the company Adobe System had to pay 65 million dollars.

8 Attack on TalkTalk

In 2015, British telecommunications operator TalkTalk suffered a cyberattack that released the data of more than 150,000 customers.   This computer breach had   to face a price of 77 million dollars as a ransom, so as not to disseminate the information. 

9 Attack on JPMorgan Chase

In 2014, the US bank JPMorgan Chase, was one of the banks that received a hack, which 76 million bank accounts and 7 million small businesses, were affected by this computer intrusion.  

It is estimated that the price they had to pay was 50 million dollars. 

10 Home Depot Attack

In 2014, the American DIY retailer Home Depot confirmed a major computer attack that exposed the data of 56 million credit cards.  

The intrusion lasted more than 5 months and formed one of the largest digital attacks in history. Those affected would be all customers who had made any type of purchase in one of its 3000 stores 

It was estimated that the hackers accessed through Blackops, the same tool they had hacked within the attack on Target.
