What are cookies?
A cookie is a file that is downloaded onto your computer when accessing certain websites. Among
other functions, cookies allow a website to store and retrieve information about the browsing habits of a user or their computer and, depending on the information contained and the way that the computer is used, they can even be used to recognise a user.
Registered users who have signed up or logged in will be able to benefit from more personalised
Similarly, the centum.com websites will be able to know all of the centum.com Services requested by the Users, in such a way that they will be able to provide or offer suitable information according to the interests and preferences of each User.
Type, purpose and operation of the centum.com Cookies: Cookies, depending on their duration, can be split into session or permanent Cookies. The former type expire when the User closes the browser. The latter type expire when the purpose that they serve has been fulfilled (for example, so that the User is identified in the centum.com Services), or alternatively when they are manually deleted.
LOGIN COOKIES: Login Cookies are created once the User has signed up or subsequently logs in, and they are used to identify the user in the Services for the following purposes:
To identify the User throughout their use of the site in such a way that, if a Service, the browser or the computer is closed and at another time or on another day the said Service is accessed again, the user will continue to be identified, enabling users to browse without the need to identify themselves again. This function can be removed if the User clicks on the “log out” option, in such a way that this Cookie is deleted and next time they enter the Service the User will have to log in again to identify themselves.
Additionally, some Services may use connections with social networks such as Facebook. When the User signs up for a Service using credentials from a social network, they authorise the social network to save a persistent Cookie that remembers their identity and guarantees that they can access the Services until it expires. The User can delete this Cookie and cancel access to the Services by means of social networks by updating their preferences on the social network in question.
GEOLOCATION COOKIES: These cookies are used by software that attempts to geographically
position the location of the connected computer, smart phone, tablet or television, so that in a
completely anonymous way the most suitable content and services are offered.
ANALYTIC COOKIES: Each time a User visits a Service, an external supplier tool (specifically, Google Analytics or others that may be added to this list in the event of variations) creates an analytic Cookie on the User’s computer. This Cookie, which is only created during the visit, will act as a way to identify the visitor anonymously on their next visits to centum.com Services. The main objectives are:
To anonymously identify Users that are browsing by means of the “Cookie” (it identifies browsers and devices, not persons) and therefore calculate the approximate number of visitors and their trends over time.
To identify the most visited content in an anonymous manner and therefore the content that is deemed most attractive for Users. To know whether the User that is accessing the website is new or if it is a repeated visit.
Important notice: Unless the User decides to sign up for a centum.com Service, the Cookie will never be associated with any personal information that can identify the User. The said Cookies will only be used for statistical purposes that help to optimise the User’s browsing experience.
ADVERTISING COOKIES: These types of Cookies help to provide further information on the
advertisements displayed to each anonymous User of the centum.com Services. For instance, they store the duration or frequency at which advertisements are viewed, the User’s interaction therewith, and User browsing patterns and/or behaviour, given that this information helps to put together a profile of advertising interest. This means that advertising that is in line with the User’s interests can be displayed.
THIRD-PARTY ADVERTISING COOKIES: In addition to the advertising managed by the centum.com websites, in their Services, the centum.com websites offer advertisers the option of displaying advertisements by means of third parties (“Ad-Servers”). Thus, these third parties can store Cookies sent from the centum.com Services that are obtained from the Users’ browsers, and access the information that is saved therein.
How to disable Cookies in the main browsers: It is normally possible not to accept the Cookies in a browser, or to stop accepting the Cookies of a particular Service.
Cookie settings can be changed on all modern browsers. These settings can normally be found in the ‘Options’ or ‘Preferences’ menu of your browser. Similarly, you can adjust your browser or e-mail administrator settings, and install free plug-ins to prevent Web Bugs from being downloaded when opening e-mails.
The centum.com website offers the User guidance on how to access the settings menu for cookies and, if required, for private browsing on each one of the main browsers:
